Minister of Water and Energy Inspects Progress of the 500 kV Arghandi Substation Project

The Minister of Water and Energy, His Excellency Hajj Mullah Mohammad Yunus Akhunzada, closely inspected and reviewed the progress of the 500 kV Arghandi Substation project.
During his visit to assess the project's advancement, the Minister described the project as vitally important for ensuring a stable and sustainable electricity supply for Kabul city and the surrounding provinces.
After evaluating the ongoing work, he emphasized the need to complete the remaining tasks as quickly as possible and to put the substation into operation on schedule. It is worth mentioning that the 500 kV Arghandi Substation is one of the major and strategic projects of the Ministry of Water and Energy, being implemented to expand and strengthen the country's electricity infrastructure.
The substation has a capacity of 400 mega volt-amperes (MVA), and approximately 95% of the work has been completed so far.Upon full completion, this substation — along with the Dasht-e Khwaja Alwan to Arghandi 500 kV transmission line and five other related projects — will enable the transmission and distribution of 1,000 megawatts of imported electricity from Turkmenistan.
This major project will play a significant role in strengthening Afghanistan’s national power grid and will substantially reduce electricity shortages in Kabul and 12 other provinces.
