The Shah-wa-Arous Dam Project Inaugurated
The inauguration ceremony for the Shah-wa-Arous Dam project was held in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs, Honorable Alhaj Mulla Abdul Kabir; the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Honorable Alhaj Mulla Abdul Ghani Baradar; the Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs, Honorable Mulla Abdul Salam Hanafi; the Acting Minister of Energy and Water, Honorable Alhaj Mulla Abdul Latif Mansoor; the Deputy Minister for Water, Honorable Mujib-ur-Rahman Omar Akhundzada; the Deputy Minister for Energy, Honorable Alhaj Mulla Abdul Hadi Yaqoob; the Governor of Kabul, Honorable Alhaj Aminullah Obaid; representatives of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran; senior officials of the Islamic Emirate; and many residents of Shakardara district in Kabul province.
During the ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs, Honorable Alhaj Mulla Abdul Kabir, described the completion of the Shah-wa-Arous Dam as a tangible example of the Islamic Emirate’s commitment to the development and progress of the country.
Similarly, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs highlighted the importance of water management in the current context, emphasizing that water management and energy development are among the Islamic Emirate’s top priorities.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs referred to the dam’s completion as a positive step in the field of water management.
Additionally, the Acting Minister of Energy and Water praised the progress made in the country’s water and energy sectors during the event. He also noted that the leadership of the Islamic Emirate has approved proposals for four major dam projects, including the Lalandar Shatoot Dam, which are set to commence in the coming year.
The Deputy Minister for Water, Honorable Mujib-ur-Rahman Omar Akhundzada, pointed out the effects of climate change and emphasized the need for increased efforts in water management under the current circumstances.
Furthermore, the Governor of Kabul, Haji Aminullah Obaid, reiterated the Islamic Emirate’s commitment to the country’s development, noting significant achievements in various sectors.
It is worth mentioning that the Shah-wa-Arous Dam, implemented by the Ministry of Energy and Water at a total cost of $53 million, aims to manage water resources and provide drinking water to the residents of Kabul.
The dam, standing 77 meters tall, has the capacity to regulate 30 million cubic meters of water annually, irrigate between 2,700 to 3,500 hectares of agricultural land, and supply 5 million cubic meters of drinking water. Additionally, it has the capability to generate 1.2 megawatts of electricity.
