The Acting Minister of Energy and Water, H.E. Alhaj Mulla Abdul Latif Mansoor, discussed bilateral cooperation in water and energy projects with the Director General of UNICEF in Afghanistan. Also present at the meeting were Deputy Minister of Energy, Honorable Maulawi Hamdullah Zahid, Deputy Minister of Water, Honorable Mujib ur Rahman Umar Akhundzada, and the Ministry’s Advisor, Honorable Dr. Farooq Azam. They discussed cooperation in implementing water and energy projects with Dr. Tajuddin, the General Director of UNICEF, and other officials of the organization.
During the visit, the Acting Minister emphasized the impact of climate change and the importance of water management in Afghanistan. He asked UNICEF to cooperate with the ministry in providing drinking water projects in remote provinces, implementing the water transfer project from Panjshir to Kabul, supplying technical equipment, and improving engineers' abilities.
The Director General of UNICEF in Afghanistan also stated that implementing water projects is a priority for the organization and UNICEF aims to strengthen underground water resources, manage water resources, and provide clean drinking water in Afghanistan. He added that, the organization will also work on energy development in the country.
Both sides assured each other of their commitment to bilateral cooperation in water management and energy development. They emphasized the need to begin coordination and practical cooperation.
