The first section (lot) of the first phase of the Shahi Canal project in Laghman province has been inaugurated.

This project was inaugurated in the presence of the Acting Minister of Energy and Water, H.E Alhaj Mullah Abdul Latif Mansoor, the Deputy Minister of Water, Honorable Mujib ur Rahman Omar Akhundzada, the Governor of Laghman, Honorable Sheikh Shir Ahmad Haqqani, the Advisor to the Ministry's Leadership, Honorable Dr. Farooq Azam, senior officials of the Islamic Emirate, local officials, and a large number of Laghman residents.

During the inauguration ceremony of this project, the Acting Minister of Energy and Water emphasized its importance and pledged to make efforts to prepare for the implementation of other parts of this canal.

H.E. Mansoor noted that numerous projects for the construction of dams for water and electricity production have been completed by the Ministry of Energy and Water across the country, and currently, preparations for the implementation of five other major dam projects are underway, which will begin in the near future.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Laghman, Honorable Sheikh Shir Ahmad Haqqani, mentioned that the construction of the Shahi Canal is not only a significant and valuable achievement for Laghman but for all the people of Afghanistan.

Additionally, the Advisor to the Ministry's Leadership, Honorable Dr. Farooq Azam, regarded the construction of the Shahi Canal as a major step in water management and agricultural development.

Similarly, the head of the contracting company, Honorable Engineer Hameedullah Hemat, also pointed to the significance of the project and pledged to ensure its successful implementation.

It is worth mentioning that the Shahi Canal is located in the Alingar district of Laghman province. The canal, in total, spans 70 kilometers in two phases and irrigates approximately 20,000 hectares of land. The first phase of this project, which spans 30 kilometers, is being implemented in four sections (lots) and will irrigate 5,000 hectares of agricultural land. The first section of the first phase is 6.6 kilometers long and has been contracted to two construction companies for implementation.
